BPSC Preliminary Syllabus

BPSC Preliminary Syllabus Examination:- 

  • The preliminary examination will be of two hours duration, in which one paper of General Studies will be of 150 (one hundred fifty) marks. The question papers will be in both Hindi and English.
  • The question paper of General Studies paper of Preliminary Examination will be objective and multiple choice type.
  • Candidates cannot use calculator to answer the objective type question papers (question booklet).
  • The preliminary examination will be merely a screening test, on the basis of which candidates will be selected for the main examination. Hence, the marks obtained in this will have no relation with the main examination. Passing in this will be compulsory and for this, one will have to obtain the minimum qualifying marks prescribed by the Commission. The number of candidates selected for the main examination will be ten times the total number of notified vacancies.
  • There is no provision for checking the accuracy of the addition of marks of the preliminary examination and for issuing its marks.

Indicative Syllabus

BPSC Preliminary Syllabus Examination:- 

General Studies :- This paper will contain questions related to the following areas of knowledge and science:-

General Science:- National and General Science, Current Affairs of International Importance, History of India and Salient Features of History of Bihar.

General Geography:- Major geographical divisions of Bihar and its important rivers, political and economic system of India, major changes in the economy of Bihar after independence, National Movement of India and the contribution of Bihar in it.

General mental ability test question

Under General Science, questions will be asked on general knowledge and understanding of science including topics related to daily experience and observation, which can be expected from any well-educated person who has not studied scientific subjects in detail. Under History, special attention will be paid to general knowledge of the subject in the social, economic and political perspective of the subject. Candidates are expected to be familiar with the main events of Bihar’s history. In Geography, special attention will be paid to the geography of “India and Bihar”. Under “Geography of India and Bihar”, there will be questions related to the social and economic geography of the country, which will include the main characteristics of Indian agriculture and natural resources. Under the State System and Economic System of India, knowledge related to the political system of the country, Panchayati Raj, Community Development and Indian Planning (with reference to Bihar also) will be tested. Under “National Movement of India”, questions will be asked related to the nature and character of the resurgence of the nineteenth century, development of nationalism and attainment of independence. Candidates are also expected to answer questions on the role of Bihar in the Indian freedom struggle.

BPSC Preliminary Scheme of Examination: Written examination will consist of two papers.
a) General Science : (Objective type)
b) General Geography:  (Objective type)

Selection Progress

Selection Process:

  • The preliminary examination will be merely a screening test, on the basis of which candidates will be selected for the main examination. Hence, the marks obtained in this will have no relation with the main examination. Passing in this will be compulsory and for this, one will have to obtain the minimum qualifying marks prescribed by the Commission. The number of candidates selected for the main examination will be ten times the total number of notified vacancies.
  • There is no provision for checking the accuracy of the addition of marks of the preliminary examination and for issuing its marks.

Resolution of Tie Cases: In cases where more than one candidate secure the equal aggregate marks in Paper-I & Paper-II, tie will be resolved by applying the following methods one after another until the tie is resolved:
i. Total marks in Paper-II.
ii. Marks in Part (i) of Paper-I (i.e. General Hindi).
iii. Date of birth, with older candidates placed higher.
iv. Alphabetical order of the names of the candidates.

Commission’s Decision Final: The decision of the Commission in all matters relating
to eligibility, acceptance or rejection of the applications, penalty for false information, mode of selection, conduct of examination(s), allotment of examination centers and preparation of merit list and allocation of posts/departments, debarment for indulging in malpractices will be final and binding on the candidates and no enquiry/ correspondence will be entertained in this regard
